The Mission Awaits
Perpetual Peacemakers
Walking Together

Presently we are in the Season of Creation, which began on September 1 with the World Day of Prayer for Creation, and extends through October 4 the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and the creator of the Canticle of Creation.  The Theme is WALKING TOGETHER.  It invites us to journey together on a pilgrimage to better care for all of creation.  However, we all know the task of the Season of Creation is continuous.

The Season of Creation is constantly endangered by the presence of chaos and fear in our nation and world.  A Season of Destruction filled with violence in thought, word and deed seems to be our daily menu.  The Season of Creation awaits our pilgrimage to care for our Common Home, for our presence as vessels of love and compassion –  vessels bringing the presence of the Divine, the hope of peace and healing.

The journey calls us together.  The challenge is, where is the path?  I remember the words of Antonio Machado: “Traveler, there is no path, paths are made by walking.”  Rumi has a similar challenge: “As you walk out on the way, the way appears.”  How can we find the way, but by trusting our hearts and the hearts of others to reveal the journey’s way with courageous hope and boundless compassion as we walk together.

Something that has become clear to me is that Universal Destruction seems here to stay.  The consolation is that Universal Compassion, love, courage, wisdom and so many other gifts and graces await us from our inner life with the Divine.  Let’s believe in ourselves and become a revolution of compassion for Creation.  Meet you on the way!

September 21, 2018 – International Day of Peace and Nonviolence

In 1981, the United Nations established the International Day of Peace to be observed as a day of global ceasefire and nonviolence, devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. On September 21, we are invited to join millions of people around the world to observe a day of peace and nonviolence

“Treat others and the planet as you would like to be treated.”
